What are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin?

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are each derived from botulinum toxin and are used to treat dynamic wrinkles, which occur as a result of facial muscle movements such as frowning or squinting. Common examples of dynamic wrinkles are crow’s feet next to the eyes and frown lines between the eyebrows, also called the elevens, the fours, or the glabella lines. When you frown, scowl, concentrate or squint, your muscles pull your skin into folds and lines.

With age, the elasticity that brings the skin back to its original position decreases, and wrinkles form. These expressions are necessary, but with age they appear to be exaggerated, and you may look more worried or upset than you actually are. Each of these injectables works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the underlying facial muscle. Because the muscle cannot contract, the wrinkle relaxes— an effect that lasts for several months.

What are the Benefits of Neuromodulators?

The primary benefit of neuromodulators is the temporary reduction of facial wrinkles and lines. However, there are other advantages to the treatment. Botox Cosmetic treatments and other neuromodulators:

  • Are entirely non-surgical
  • Can be administered in quick, convenient appointments
  • Are not painful
  • Show results quickly
  • Require no downtime
  • Last for several months
  • Are not permanent

Additionally, choosing a highly qualified and world-renowned team of injectors means that you can rest assured knowing you are under the care of some of the industry’s best.

Who is a Good Candidate for Neuromodulators?

Typically, exemplary candidates for Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are those who:

  • Want to reduce dynamic wrinkles and expression lines on the upper face
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Do not have skin conditions that could result in infections
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of 2 weeks before treatment.

If you believe that this treatment is right for you, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our team today! We are proud to say we treat a lot of first-timers and we thank you for your trust. We also have many other cosmetic procedures to choose from, so even if neuromodulators aren’t a match for you, we can help you find a more suitable treatment method.

What Can I Expect Before, During, and After a Botox Treatment in New York City?

Before

You will need to avoid all unnecessary blood thinners such as vitamins, supplements, fish oil, Vitamin E, or wine for 3-6 days. Also, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, and Advil. Please stay on your medically necessary aspirin or blood thinners. We’d rather your skin have a tiny bruise than have a medical problem. Lastly, read the consent and ask any questions you might have.

During

Less is more, and “frozen” doesn’t look inviting or natural. Each of our expert injectors will be highly precise with their injections to give you the best and most natural-looking results possible with the least amount of product. We can always add more Botox in two weeks if you feel you need more. We prefer not to ice so as not to change the average temperature of the skin.

After

Minimal downtime or recovery is necessary after your Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin injections. You should be able to go about your regular routine right after leaving our office, which includes exercising and returning to work. But don’t take a nap or put your head in a pillow for 4 hours.

Remember that you probably won’t notice results until 24 to 48 hours have elapsed. In clinical trials, most people saw significant improvement starting at 7 days and continuing for up to a month.

How Long Do NYC Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin Results Last?

Results for frown line treatments last up to three to four months. However, new receptors are continually growing, so you will notice that 33% of muscle movement returns per month post-treatment. It is normal to see the expression lines come back slowly.

NYC Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin – FAQ

The most common side effects associated with Botox injections include localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bruising. Patients sometimes have a headache for 1-7 days, but this is rare and can be easily treated with relaxation techniques.

The cost of your Botox in New York City depends on the amount of product injected, the time it takes to perform your procedure, and other factors that are difficult to predict without an evaluation. The Marmur Medical team will provide you with a cost breakdown after meeting with you in a consultation.

Each formula has unique qualities that may make it more or less suitable depending on the patient. Choosing the right neuromodulator largely depends on the extent of your concerns, your desired outcome, and which option our experts decide is right for you.

These toxins are highly purified and highly diluted, and, in the case of botulinum toxin, millions of injections have been performed effectively and safely since its first use by Dr. Alan Scott in the 1980s for an eye condition, strabismus. Dr. Jean Carruthers, an ophthalmologist, noticed her patients’ wrinkles were reduced after the treatment of strabismus, and the medicine was approved by the FDA in 1989. Dr. Marmur has safely and successfully treated thousands of patients with Botox treatments to achieve a natural, refreshed look, sometimes through what she calls “baby Botox” — her technique to use tiny amounts in targeted facial muscles to achieve the best effect.

Whether you need Botox injections, dermal fillers (such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane, Sculptra, Belotero, or Teosyl RHA, etc.), or both, depends on your issues and what you are trying to achieve with a cosmetic injectable treatment. Patients often benefit from either type, but fillers effectively treat the lower face (around the mouth and cheeks). In contrast, neuromodulators are generally used on the upper face (to treat eye and forehead wrinkles and lines) and lower face (lip, chin, neck, jawline). The Marmur Medical team is internationally recognized for their skills and are committed to finding the best treatment to achieve a look that is beautiful, natural, and never overdone. Fillers and neuromodulators can also be combined into a non-surgical facelift. The Marmur Medical team is internationally recognized for their skills and are committed to finding the best treatment to achieve a look that is beautiful, natural, and never overdone.

Botox injections can improve the appearance of a variety of aging signs, such as:

  • facial lines and wrinkles

  • crow’s feet

  • bunny lines

  • the “11’s”

Botox injections are also FDA-approved for other uses by medical professionals, including the treatment of excessive sweating, bruxism (teeth grinding), migraine headaches, and more.
