MMSkincare FAQs
About MMSkincare » MMSkincare FAQs
Can I use MMSkincare if I have super sensitive skin?
All of our products are hypoallergenic and non-irritating—even for the most sensitive of complexions. (If you’re nervous, I advise patch testing any new product on your inner arm for a couple of days first, just to be on the safest side.)
Every MMSkincare Mask and Serum is packed with soothing hydrators such as aloe, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and anti-inflammatory ingredients like niacinamide and green tea extract.
MMSkincare Dynamic Essence, at the heart of all our products, contains botanical adaptogens (wild indigo and baobab seed extract) plus probiotics that work dynamically with your skin to fight inflammation and keep your complexion happy and calm.
Is the fragrance in MMSkincare natural?
It is! MMSkincare products have a super subtle scent that dissipates quickly once it’s on your skin. There are no irritating, chemical-based perfumes in our formula.
The MMSkincare fragrance blend is derived from calming essential oils of lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood, and we added geranium, which is soothing and naturally antibacterial. MMRepose Serums and Masks have a little extra lavender in the mix for its relaxing aromatherapy benefits.
Are MMSkincare products all- natural? Are they safe to use if I'm pregnant?
Our formulas are mindfully formulated to be safe, skin-friendly, and effective, but they are not 100% natural. We value clean science and choose the highest quality, pure, natural, and bio-identical ingredients that work harmoniously with the skin and have proven efficacy.
We are 100% free from harmful chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, harsh preservatives, synthetic dyes or fragrances, sulfates, silicones, formaldehyde, ethanolamines, and propylene glycol.
MMSkincare does not contain any ingredients that disrupt the skin barrier (such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinoids), which should be avoided when you are pregnant.
Our formulas are not only safe to use during pregnancy, they can be a good, safe alternative to other acne or anti-aging products. (MMBalance contains Canadian Willow Herb instead of benzoyl peroxide, for example, and MMRevive and MMRepose use peptides in lieu of retinol to treat wrinkles.)
Regardless of your skin issue, check with your dermatologist and your OBGYN about the kinds of cosmetics and topical ingredients to use (and to steer clear of) if you’re trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and when you’re nursing.
Can I layer other skincare products with my MMSkincare serum? Do I need to apply a moisturizer on top of the serum?
Since ours is an all-in-one serum + aloe-based moisturizer, you may not need another hydrating step.
MMSerums’ innovative gel texture hydrates and seals in moisture, so it’s one and done! In the daytime, however, I advise you to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on top.
I want you to protect your precious skin every single day, even cloudy ones! Since our serum doesn’t get tacky or pill under makeup, it acts as a beautiful primer as well.
At night, your MMSerum may definitely be all you need moisturizer-wise on your face and neck (and even the skin around your eyes!) but if your skin is extremely dry, simply put a rich, creamy moisturizer on after your serum step.
Should MMSerums be used only at night?
Ideally, our serums should be used both day and night, since applying twice a day doubles down on all the skin-healthy ingredients and benefits. Our formula is an all-in-one serum + water-based moisturizer, so it acts as a perfect daytime hydrator and primer underneath makeup (and under sunscreen of course!) plus it works as a perfect PM moisturizer.
Can I mix and match Balance, Repose and Revive serums and masks?
You can, but you’ll also get great results if you use just one. I always tell my patients to read their skin, because it fluctuates every day. That way you can troubleshoot complexion issues like a breakout, or dry skin, or redness. Remember, your skin is an incredible, living, breathing organ, exquisitely influenced by what you eat, how much you sleep, the atmosphere around you, and what you put on top of it.
MMSkincare Dynamic Essence is in all three, but MMBalance is a great choice if you have acne-prone or red, sensitive skin. You could use MMRevive (that contains powerful skin-healing ingredients) when your skin is feeling super-sensitive and irritable. MMRepose is a perfect nighttime moisturizer for everybody, but you might want to use MMBalance during the day to help counter redness in your skin.

Is MMSkincare anti-aging?
Yes it is, but it works in a more innovative, and much less aggressive way than a lot of anti-aging products. My goal with MMSkincare was to utilize gentle active ingredients that were also proven to have effective results. For example, the Dynamic Essence in all our products actively de-stresses, feeds, and protects the skin barrier with adaptogenic botanicals like wild indigo, pre- and probiotics, niacinamide, and soothing hydrators. This enables your skin to do what it does naturally: Repair itself and build collagen and elastin.
Of course, there are excellent topical ingredients like retinoids that push the process along and help promote collagen production. The problem with prescription tretinoin and over-the-counter retinol, as well as anti-agers vitamin C and AHA acids is that they can cause redness and flaking, so a lot of people can’t tolerate them.
Now we have gentler options to boost collagen and treat fine lines, like the peptides in MMRevise and MMRepose, along with plant-based antioxidants, such as green tea extract that rejuvenate the skin without irritating it.
When can I expect to see results with my MMSkincare regimen?
Our clinical studies are ongoing, but so far they have shown improvement of fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and redness within a week of using MMSkincare twice a day.
I’m in a very privileged position as the founder of a skincare line, because I’m both a doctor and a researcher. At my office, I’m able to use the highest level of Visia complexion analysis machine to test the quality and improvement of skin on people who have been using the MMSkincare system.
In accordance with the FDA, we are approved by the IRB, which stands for institutional review board, to do clinical testing on patients, and this independent ethics committee reviews our research for ethical scientific approval.
Of course, I also act as my own skincare guinea pig, and I’ve noticed improvement in my own complexion using MMBalance twice a day over the course of one week. I have less redness and fewer breakouts, and I’ve also never received more compliments on my glowing complexion!
If I'm using a MMSerum, do I need to use a mask too?
Applying one of our masks will amp up your amazing MMSkincare results—in a big way. It’s a bit like installing a new operating system on your computer to make everything work faster and more efficiently. Think of our masks as optimization software for your skin!
The same incredible ingredients that are in the MMSerums are literally infused into the hydrogel masks using triple matrix technology. While other sheet masks are steeped in a formula, our Dynamic Essence, hydrators, and active ingredients are actually part of the hydrogel mask, allowing for even distribution to the skin surface.
Our masks are enriched with even more hydrators than the serums, so you’ll notice that your skin will instantly plump up and fine lines will soften temporarily. And, our hydrogel mask increases penetration of the ingredients by creating an occlusive barrier that seals them onto the skin for a more intensive treatment. This is my favorite secret weapon to make my skin look radiant for a big event, or a date night.
How often should I use a MMMask for the best results, and how do I put it on properly?
I recommend using the mask once a week for 20 minutes (or more) to boost the results of your MMSkincare routine. I also suggest massaging two pumps of MMSerum over your face and neck first, before immediately applying the mask for a mega hydrating treatment.
When you remove the mask from the packaging, be aware that there are two sections. (The face mask has an upper and the lower piece, and the neck/chest mask has a separate piece for neck and a much larger one to cover the chest.) It doesn’t matter which side of the mask you put on your skin, since the formula is permeated throughout the hydrogel material.
Now, instead of simply placing the mask on your skin, massage it on for about 2 to 3 minutes, using the pads of your fingers to gently press and trace over the mask, molding it over all the nooks and crannies. (If you have a face roller, this is a great time to use it!) Make sure to cover key areas like your upper lip and under the eyes.
These few minutes of acupressure helps with lymphatic drainage to get rid of excess fluid under the skin, and it boosts circulation and brings energy to the skin surface—which is how our ingredients communicate and with work dynamically with the skin to give you such glowing results.
